Sarasota Memorial deploys analytics platform to catch lung cancers earlier
The Florida health system is using an analytics platform across its Jellison Cancer Institute to identify lung cancers earlier in its screening program.
Health systems are monetising AI beyond the reading room, pushing it into population-level cancer screening. But without published sensitivity, specificity, or time-to-diagnosis data versus standard LDCT, 'earlier detection' remains a marketing claim until the outcomes paper lands.

JUM paper reframes cyclical endometrial appearance as sonographic paradox
Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine published an EarlyView paper examining how endometrial appearance shifts across menstrual cycle phases on ultrasound.
Cyclical endometrial variation is well-trodden territory. The value depends on whether the paper identifies new patterns beyond known physiologic thickness changes, or merely rebrands existing knowledge — sonographers should read the methodology before adjusting interpretation.

✍️ EDITOR’S TAKES
🩺 EDITOR’S TAKE — FOR CLINICIANS
Screening programs are increasingly judged on time-to-diagnosis, not just volume. Ask whether your institution's analytics layer reports sensitivity and false-positive rates against LDCT baselines — vendor claims of 'earlier detection' need numbers attached.
📊 EDITOR’S TAKE — FOR INVESTORS
Roche-PathAI last week, now health systems buying screening analytics: capital is flowing toward population-level cancer detection, not just reading-room AI. Watch for cancer analytics acquisition targets and Epic-adjacent vendors monetising the screening funnel.
🏭 EDITOR’S TAKE — FOR INDUSTRY
Lung cancer screening is becoming an enterprise software category, sitting between EHR, radiology PACS, and population health. OEMs without an analytics play upstream of the scanner risk being commoditised as health systems chase ROI on early detection programs.
